Parent Reunification Process

Parent Information for Student Reunification During a Critical Incident

Parent expectations for an offsite reunification:

  • This process is slow and very controlled
  • You must have a photo ID
  • Having your photo ID ready will help speed up the process
  • Please be patient, this process is designed to protect the students and ensure student accountability
  • Students will be held in a separate control area away from the parent pickup line
  • Parents and a member of the staff, (Runner) will receive a ticket once the parent is cleared for pickup
  • The parent will then move to the reunification area
  • The runner will retrieve the student from the control area and re-unite the student with the parent, comparing the tickets to ensure accountability
  • This reunification method will only be used in a situation when typical student release from the school is not possible.  This is a standardized process.

This process is setup not only to ensure student safety and accountability but also to make the event less chaotic for everyone involved.  We understand this could be a very stressful situation for both students and parents.  Following this standardized process will ensure the most effective reunification possible.

Things to remember:

  • Student safety is always top priority
  • Bring your photo ID and have it ready to present
  • Be as patient as possible and allow the process to take place
  • Update all of your contact information
  • Step 1: Form a line in the parent pickup area
  • Step 2:  Present your ID and receive a ticket
  • Step 3: Move to the reunification area and wait for the runner
  • Step 4: Verify ticket information with the runner and reunite with your child
  • Step 5:  Safely exit the reunification area
  • Thank you in advance for your support with this process.

What can you do as a parent?

Please do not respond to the site of the critical incident.   First responders will be coming from all directions and will need access immediately to that site.

All information will be shared with you about the reunification site and the situation via the school district’s mass notification system.  In order to ensure you receive the information please update all of your contact information in Powerschool.  Please take a moment to double check that your information is up to date.
