New Books
Who
says kids do not read much anymore? At
our school we have found that this is
not true. Our students read a lot and at
our library we have a hard time keeping
up with their demands. Luckily we have
many new books to choose from right now,
so I will mention a few of them that
might be of special interest to you.
For those of you who are
interested in both mystery and
historical fiction, we have a new series
called THE LADY GRACE MYSTERIES. These
books take place during the time of
Queen Elizabeth I, and show a good
insight into that time period and at the
same time there is a mystery to solve.
The Lexile numbers for the series are in
the 900s.
Jack Gatos has a new
book about Joey Pigza called I AM NOT
JOEY PIGZA. All friends of Joey must be
so glad to hear that he is back with a
new book. As always in the Joey Pigza
books, there is comedy, but also a more
serious side. Here Joey’s father is
suddenly back in their lives, and that
can only mean trouble. No Lexile numbers
given.
If you are a fan of Brian
Jaques’ The Red Wall series, he now
has a new series called THE CASTAWAYS OF
THE FLYING DUTCHMAN. This series is
about a boy and his dog who are given
the gift and curse of walking the earth
for eternity spreading good new and joy.
The boy and the dog are passengers on
the ill fated Flying Dutchman, and the
stories take off from there. Lexile
numbers varies from the middle 700s to
900s.
James Patterson, who
wants to be known as “The King of
Page-Turners”, writes books for adults
and also for young adults. He has a new
series called MAXIMUM RIDE. This series
is about a group of kids who can fly and
who have a mission to save the world. It
is recommended that you read these books
in the order of publication. The Lexile
number of these books is in the 600s.
Darren Shan, who is
known to most of you for his Cirque du
Freak series, has come out with a new
series called THE DEMONATA SERIES. These
are typical Darren Shan books with page
turning pace and crazy endings. If you
like high adventure you will love this
series. No Lexile numbers given.
Garth Nix, the
popular author of The Seventh tower,
Sabriel, and Lirael, has a new series
called KEYS TO THE KINGDOM. Seven days,
seven keys, seven virtues, seven sins
and seven volumes, another thrilling
series from Garth Nix. Lexile numbers
between 800 and 900.
Deborah Abela is a
new author for us in our school, and she
has a series called SPY FORCE. The main
character here is Max Remy, she may look
like an ordinary 11 years old girl, but
in truth she is a super spy, involved in
dangerous missions with the
international agency Spy Force. Real and
imaginary worlds blend in this exiting
series. No Lexile numbers given.
