SUMMER READING LISTS 2008

At Raymond High School, it is our philosophy that all students should be reading as much as possible, not only during the school year, but during vacation as well.  With that in mind, we are providing suggested reading lists for all grade levels.  These lists include a wide variety of books, from the classics to more contemporary titles.  Below are two sets of lists.

The first, for students enrolled in honors and A.P. courses, includes the titles of three or four books which will be required reading before students’ return in the fall. The second list is an “open reading list” of suggested works for all students.

The best way to make a decision about what you would like to read is to spend some time browsing through the books on the list.  For those students who would like to borrow copies we have the titles of all honors and A.P. books available from now until June 20th in room 216 at RHS.  We also have a limited number of some of the open reading titles.  They can also be borrowed from local libraries. For titles on the Open Reading List as well as those on the honors/A.P. lists, we encourage you to purchase copies that you can keep, write in, and dog-ear all you like.  These titles are available in any standard bookstore.

This year, Raymond High School has partnered with Barnes & Noble Booksellers in Manchester to highlight all of the titles on all of our lists during a special Raymond High School Book Fair at the Barnes & Noble Manchester store on Friday, June 6th and Saturday, June 7th.  On these two dates, a percentage of the proceeds from all book sales to Raymond High School students and their families will help fund more books in your child’s classroom.   We hope you will consider attending the Barnes & Noble Book Fair.

If you have questions or concerns, please contact our English Department chair, Liz Koch: l.koch@sau33.com.  Happy reading!
