One of the most important aspects of a schools presence in the 21st
century is its website. The old
SAU website was in need of repair and
updating. Since many of the future
projects the IT department has on the
drawing board require a modern website,
it was clear that this project needed to
be one of the first tasks completed by
the IT department.
The old website had a very long and "incorrect" name
(mail.raymond.k12.nh.us) making it VERY
difficult to be found in the search
engines. In addition, it was a
very long address to type, let alone
remember. The new website...
(www.sau33.com) is much easier to
remember and offers the district a
better chance of being discovered in the
search engines.
In November of 2007 the new site was launched and
within 3 months had amassed over 12,000
website hits! This represents a
SIGNIFICANT increase in traffic over the
old site.
New
Webmasters
In the past the district website was maintained by 1
person. Given the size and dynamic
of SAU 33 this proved to be insufficient
to maintain an upto date website.
As a result the IT department
coordinated its efforts with the
Principals from every school and has
assigned 1 person per school to maintain
their section of the website. In
addition, updates at the district level
are being done by the Superintendent's
office and the IT department maintains
all other web aspects. This means
that no fewer than 5 people now update
the district website on a weekly (if not
daily) basis. School
cancellations, District news, School
Events and other subject matter are now
being regularly updated!
MORE
Reliable
In the Spring of 2007 Raymond was victim to a massive
flood which essentially took down the
districts website and email. Prior
to the new website improvement the
district hosted its own email and
website activities. As a result of
maintaining web and email with the
district all access was lost for 2-3
weeks until Verizon was able to repair
its facilities.
Having learned a hard lesson, the district opted to
have all web and email functions hosted
off site. This change not only
improved reliability but also reduced
costs and labor to maintain a district
web/email server. Under the new
system spam has been GREATLY reduced and
has enjoyed 100% uptime since it's
migration.
Look for future web improvements over the next year!!!
