Centralized Color
Laser Printers |
One of the biggest challenges any IT
department faces is keeping up with the
demand for printing. One of the
most costly aspects of printing in a
school district is the amount of ink
used by older, outdated printers.
Upon our arrival the new IT department
conducted a district wide survey of
color inkjet printers and discovered
over 51 different varieties! With
the average ink cartridge yielding only
350-400 prints at a cost of $50 - $75
per refill, something needed to change.
With the support of the school Principals
and the Superintendent, the district
purchased 25 new color laser printers
and disbursed them throughout the SAU.
These new printers yield over 6,000
color copies at a significantly reduced
price per page. In addition, laser
printers are faster, quieter and produce
better quality prints. Finally,
the new printers are networkable whereas
the older inkjets were not. This
meant that we would be able to
strategically place printers throughout
all schools to give reasonable access to
all teachers, students and staff.
The resulting savings in ink will more
than pay for these upgrades over the
next 4-5 years.
What if you have an
Inkjet printer in your classroom?
Teachers and staff are free to keep inkjet printers in their
classrooms and offices if they wish,
however, the district will no longer
purchase any new ink for these printers.
