The IT department has put forth the desire to
interconnect all schools and the SAU
with a fiberoptic line. By
connecting our schools together with
this type of line we can then aggregate
all existing T-1 lines into one location
(See below) and dramatically increase
Internet access for all schools, allow
us to consolidate our district servers
and will move us
away from a 4 domain network to a single
WAN. (Wide Area Network)
With fiber
optics in place internet speeds will be
dramatically improved and give us the
infrastructure we need to move forward
with long distance education, full mode
video conferencing and a host of other
impressive abilities.
Not only
will this be a step in the right
direction, over time we will be able to
save money as well as
increase the
reliability of our network.
Look for more updates on this project as we go through
the process. For sure this will be
the biggest improvement that the IT
department has suggested as well as the
most labor intensive... but there is no
question it will be worth the effort!
I will be posting information as it
comes my way to keep you up to speed on
the status of this proposed project.
If all goes smoothly we can project a
Summer of 2009 installation.
PHASE 1: As of 06/25/08
we have broken ground between the High
School and SAU building to lay the first
ever Single Mode Fiber Optical cable
within the district. This new
cable will help increase network access
between RHS and the SAU building.
In addition, since the new cable will be
able to handle an enormous amount of
data we will be able to move the Admin
building T-1 over to the high School and
save 1/2 our monthly cost in the
process. This means that we will
be able to double the bandwidth at the
High School AND the SAU at a huge
savings! The added bandwidth will
be required to support all the current
internet use as well as support Power
School which is a web based software
package. We will be posting some
ground breaking pictures of the new
cable being placed, shortly.
PHASE 2: The District is
currently in the design stage to
implement the remaining fiber
connections to the other buildings.
We need to clear a few hurdles before we
can begin this project. With luck
we will be on track for a Summer 2009
Installation.

PHASE 1 - Fiber Optical Connection between the SAU and
the Raymond High School
Shown below is the underground trench
being dug which will hold the conduit
connecting the SAU building and the High
School Via Fiber Optics. This
improvement, scheduled to come online
before Sept 1, 2008 will allow us to
move the T-1 at the SAU building over to
the High School, thus doubling the
bandwidth for both the High School and
the SAU. This improvement will
generate a significant savings in
operating costs while doubling the
available bandwidth for both locations!
