One of the biggest challenges the district faces is
lack of cellular connectivity. In
addition to creating a communication
problem for the IT and Maintenance
departments, it also poses a huge
security risk and creates communication
impediments during times of emergency.
The new IT staff identified this problem very early has
has been working since the summer of
2007 to have internal cellular antennas
placed inside all SAU33 buildings.
After creating a proposal SPRINT/NEXTEL
offered to install these new antenna
FREE within all 3 schools and the SAU
building. As of 2/15/08 we have
successfully deployed a NEXTEL antenna
at the High School. Individuals
using Nextel phones went from limited
service to FULL service throughout the
High School building. We are in
the process of building the SPRINT side
of the network at the High School and
will move on to the Middle School,
Elementary School and the SAU building
as engineers become available from
SPRINT/NEXTEL for these projects.
What will
this mean for cell users?
Once this
project is completed anyone using a
Sprint or Nextel
phone will enjoy significantly improved
cellular service in all SAU buildings.
Anyone not on a Sprint or Nextel plan
will not see much improvement.

LRES - The install in the main
building is now completed. We are
in the process of connecting the PODS to
the new system. Once done we will
be installing a
better
quality cell phone receiver with the
hopes of boosting the cell signal in a
near zero coverage area. Check
back for pictures.
