One of the first tasks the new IT department did was to
do a complete on sight hardware
evaluation. During this process we
discovered the types of networking
infrastructure and began to understand
how it all "fit together". During
these assessments we noted a number of
insufficient battery backup units to
protect essential network architecture.
PHASE 1: Provide new Battery backup
units for all Mission Critical hardware.
STATUS: As of 3/11/08
Raymond High
School: All servers
routers, switches have at least minimal
battery backup protection. All
WinSchool Stations are now equipped with
Backup 500 floor units.
IHGMS:
All servers, routers and switches have
at least minimal battery backup
protection.
LRES:
Requirements are noted, insufficient
funding currently available to properly
protect all servers.
SAU Building:
Requirements are noted, insufficient
funding currently available to properly
protect all servers. Many stations
at the SAU have at least minimal battery
backup units.
FUTURE
PLANS: There are
several new network designs being
discussed that would consolidate
existing network servers, thus requiring
fewer APC backups. As of 3/11/08
we are still in the theorizing stage but
several consolidation plans have emerged
which could save the district thousands
of dollars in new hardware.
Updates on this will be posted as we
continue this process.
